glass reflected onto plate, glass should be changed, some mat abrasions.

Photographer's name on mat. Original seals. Spots on glass are reflected on
plate, may be some spots on plate but very hard to tell without changing the
glass. I think the plate will shine if the glass is changed. Housed in a full
leather case that is not original to the image. It is interesting to note that
there is a photocopy of another daguerreotype behind the image which was the daguerreotype
that was original to the case. Notes to this effect are in Ken Appollo's hand.

Image measures about 7" x 6" from impression through paper on back of frame
although I can't be sure of the actual size as the frame is professional sealed.
The actual image size that appears in the frame is 4 1/2" x 3 1/4."
The overall frame is 12" x 10." There is a
small partial crack on the inner circle at the bottom of the frame that is barely noticeable; otherwise it

daguerreotype and one sixth-plate ambrotype. Case is Berg 1-14, Mother Embracing
Child 2. ambrotype is by A.W. Judson, Milford, Mass. and has a blindstamped
paper backing with his name. Daguerretype has some wipes, has been resealed. Case is by
Littlefield, Parsons & Co. There are numerous small nicks along case edges. No
cracks, hinges and main illustration panels are fine. $350

D92. Incredible Mother of Pearl Painted frame with Half-Plate daguerreotype
of a painting of a home. Only superlatives can be said about this piece. It is a
phenomenal display piece with a unique frame and a beautiful Daguerreotype.
Image measure approximately 5 1/4" x 6." Frame measures 12" x 13." When
I purchased this image I was informed that the daguerreotype was of a painting
of a Hudson River home. I have not opened the back of the frame to see if there
is any further identifying information present. The daguerreotype is in
beautiful condition without wipes or scratches or tarnish. The frame is missing
a few pieces of the mother of pearl but as can be seen this does not in any way
distract from it's wonderful appearance. This is a unique and extraordinary

"siji"? which makes no sense. As they say, it is what it is, a rare ambrotype of

Hale." This is written on a slip of paper behind image. An additional slip of
paper has the following information: "1854, March 23 marriage of Ethan Blodgett,
born Oct. 17, 1832, died June 23, 1908 and Mary Mayhew Manchester of New
Bedford, Mass., born April 6, 1833, died Oct. 21, 1916. Ethan-Father Jos.
Blodgett, Mother Hannah Chase, born Chesire Co., Fitzwilliam, N.H." There is
also a printout with additional genealogical information. The image has a light
wipe on the right side of the plate which is not very obvious but can be seen at
a certain angle. It is housed in a velvet standing frame which in turn is housed
in a flip top case. One of the hinges in the case is broken and the other is
barely hanging on. $250

D180. W.R. Phipps, Artist, Lexington, KY. Quarter-plate daguerreotype of a
father with his son. The father holds the boy's hands so they stay still. Craig
has a W.R. Phipps listed as a daguerreian in Meadville, Pa. 1849-1851. He then
says "possibly the same as William R. Phipps, listed in 1859-1860 as an
ambrotypist in Lexington, Ken. There he was noted as an ambrotypist and
photographer, on the southwest corner of Mulberry and Main Streets, opposite the
Phoenix Hotel." As this image arrived with original seals and the Phipps
attribution in place, apparently he was making Daguerreotypes in Kentucky in the
mid-to-late 1850's. Plate is clean, resealed, housed in split full leather case.

following is pencilled behind the image on the the paper case lining. "Lyman
Julius Esq. This Photograph does represent your youth and beauty now--And when

along and get a good" (and here there is a profile of a face drawn). This is a
very interesting inscription that appears to have been done by the photographer.

of a man, the other side holds a tintype of a young child. The daguerreotype has
some tarnish at sides. Locket has a decorative scene of houses and a shoreline.

D199. Sixth-plate daguerreotype of a distinguished-looking man with a large
book on the table by his side titled "Dick's Works." This is a book by Thomas
Dick (1774-1857), published in 1840. Dick was a Scottish scientific teacher and
writer known for his writing on astronomy. He was also a deeply religious man.
Tarnish around the edges. Resealed, reglassed, in full leather case. $125

Case8. Pair of quarter-plate ambrotypes housed in a thermoplastic Scroll
case (Krainik 75). The case is made by Holmes, Booth & Haydens. Hinges have some
give but corners are sharp overall very good condition. $200

Case9. Quarter-plate ambrotype of "George Warren Palmer, age Jan. 1840,"
written on case behind image. Housed in thermoplastic case Alone at the
Rendezvous (Krainik 31). Case is by Littlefield, Parsons & Co. One small nick at
one corner, one or two very small nicks on side, overall very good. $275

Case13. Sixth-plate thermoplastic case by A.P. Critchlow & Co. This is The
Farmer's Dream (Krainik 138). An ambrotype with mat of Kimball, NY is housed in
the case. Two corners have chips. $150

D222. Sixth-plate daguerreotype of a young drummer boy with small drum
around his neck and drumsticks in his hand. The plate has some wipes and looks
like some effects of a poor washing at some time. Focus is soft. Resealed,
housed in half leather case. $650

Amb36. Quarter-plate ambrotype of a man with his horse. The horse is shown
in full profile, in harness. There are a couple of kids sitting in the
background against a wooden fence. There are a few spots on the ambrotype as
shown. These is a slip of paper behind image that reads: "S.H. Atwood died April
3/1926 7 PM." Housed in a full split leather case. $325

Case15. Sixth-plate thermoplastic case. This is Angel with Flower Cornucopia
(Krainik 157). Contained within are two ambrotypes. The inside backs of the case
are blackened to provide an appropriate backing for the ambrotypes. Case is in
very good condition, with sharp corners. $150

Case16. Sixth-plate thermoplastic case. Label for Genuine Union Case, S.
Peck's Patents, H. Halverson's Patent. The case is Grape Cluster (Krainik 181).
There is an ambrotype of a couple with tinted cheeks in the case. The case is in
very good condition with sharp corners. There is one small crack line near the
clasp. $85

Case17. Sixth-plate thermoplastic case, The Deer and the Pine Tree (Krainik
167). Two ambrotypes are contained within. Paper label citing Peck's and
Halverson's Patents behind man's image. The image of the woman is glued to the
interior of the front of the case. Pencilled behind the man's image on the label
is "Taken September 24, 1857, Eston, Pa." Case is in very good condition, sharp
corners, no cracks, few nicks. $165

Case18. Double-ninth plate thermoplastic case, Children Playing with Toys (Krainik
559). Contained within are two ambrotypes. Case is by Littlefield, Parsons & Co.
The ambrotype on the woman has a mat with "V.W. Goodwin" on it. Case is worn,
with many nicks and a chipped area around the left clasp. $135

A.P. Critchlow & Co. Ambrotype of man within. Three nicks corners, otherwise

Peck Union Case, Spray of Strawberries and Grapes (Krainik 176). Case is in very
good condition, velvet mat is unglued. $125

tinted gold. There are a few abrasions and tarnish at the sides. Resealed,

Holmes, Booth & Hayden. Case is in very good condition, sharp corners, a few

with ambrotype of man in what looks to be a conductor's cap. Mat has imprint
"The Union Now and Forever." Case is by Littlefield, Pasons & Co. Ambrotype has
crazing throughout. Case has one nicked corner otherwise very good, working
clasp. $125

D229. Sixth-plate daguerreotype of an older gentleman with great expression
on his face. There is much to read in this man's eyes. Original mat has
cardboard attached and consequently the area that underlined the mat is damaged
but I have replaced that mat and the only plate marks are on the right side of
the plate as shown. Please look closely at his face. Resealed, reglassed, housed
in a full leather case. $150
