A.P.C. & Co. are the Original Inventors of the Composition for the Union Case, (so called,) including all the various shades of color and fineness of texture peculiar to their manufacture and of the Embracing Riveted Hinges, thus securing them from breaking out as do others that are inserted with or without a metal brace. Hinge Patented Oct. 14, 1856. In that the second patent date is missing from this printing of the paper insert, one might surmise that it was produced after Oct. 14, 1856 but prior to April 27, 1857. Double ninth-plate thermoplastic case, A Family Party (Berg 1-49). Housed within are a daguerreotype of a woman which has been resealed and an ambrotype of a bearded man. I have been informed that nder a winter greatcoat this gentleman wears a double breasted frock coat (or perhaps it's a vest) which is made of wool in the houndstooth weave. The
fabric quite likely was loomed in Scotland. In the 1850s this would have been a fairly pricey garment. Cheeks are tinted in both images. One corner of case has small chip, few other nicks around edges. G+. $250

G. $200

Case42.
Push-button leather case with mat and glass measuring 7" x 5 7/8." The image opening is 6.5" x 5 3/8." So this is something like a 3/4 plate case. It's got a few nicks on the leather but push button is fine and overall is a very nice case. VG. $250
