My source only listed the Boston and New York productions, in which the character was played by Thomas Martin; since the photog studio was Max Platz, in Chicago, I'd bet that the same production also played in that city." Jack Earle Giant Ring in top hat case. Obviously this is not a photograph of Jack Earle but an example of a popular promotional item that was sold by him. The ring reads "Jack Earle 8 ft. 6 1/2, Giant." Earle sold two versions of his ring, one saying he was 8 ft. 6 in. tall and this one adding a half inch. The ring opening measures 1 3/8" in diameter. VG. $125

Illinois; was attached with the rheumatism in August, 1839 from which I ceased to walk Dec. 28th, 1840. Removed to Keokuk County, Iowa in 1846, and in 1853 got a chair, on which I was enabled to sit for the first time in twelve and a half years. Returned to Knox Co. ILL., and commenced playing the Dulcimer in April 1854 and commenced traveling with Stereoscopic Exhibition in 1864." 2-cent cancelled tax stamp on verso.
